WEATHERS CORPORATION HAPPY HOUR [Nov 25, 2008]
There are already plenty of occasions to drink—weddings, birthdays, holidays, corporate parties, sporting events, and even some religious ceremonies—but Weathers Corporation wants to give you one more. That’s why we are announcing a monthly happy hour for our clients, friends, family, and nosey competitors.
Seth Weathers, President of Weathers Corporation, recently hired a statistician to find out how many cocktails could be made from the ingredients available at our office’s bar. “The total figure was 12,347,933, 201,” he says. “So far we’ve sampled about 372 variations and they were all pretty good.”
Join us on Tuesday, December 9th at 5:30 as we raise a glass to celebrate happy hour, the long-standing American tradition of drinking before dinner.
Ironically, prohibition gave birth to happy hour as we know it today. Although the term was coined by the US Navy in the 1920s referring to on-ship performances where soldiers could relax and drink, it was the underground speakeasies (illegal drinking establishments during prohibition) that made it part of civilian life. Between 1920 and 1933, restaurants could no longer serve alcoholic beverages, so their patrons would frequent the underground clubs an hour or so before heading out to dinner.
Luckily, alcoholic beverages are perfectly legal today, so there’s no need for a secret knock or password to get through the door. Our office is fully equipped with two bars and a small army of Guinness in the fridge, so feel free to bring a friend or two.
